This is some of the Tantalizing Tangerine piece's i have collected up to date and will be adding to in the furture, this colour is so vibrant yhey just shine out from a low glowing light up to a bright light one of the most popular colours made by Whitefriars, Many of the moulds were made using textured wood which was then made into cast iron moulds. Deceptive Drunken Bricklayer Vases.

Drunken Bricklayer Vases are very popular and being so make it worth while for the (Unscrupulous copiers of certain art glass to make ) i hope this little bit of information in photos & added links will help those of you whom intend to purchase one of these iconic vases designed by Geoffrey Baxter for Whitefriars Glass Company. I would like to thank the kind members of http://www.whitefriars.com/ for their work in bringing this to our attention, you can click the link above to find more information.

Above you will find my own attempt in photo's to show you the difference between a fake and a genuine Drunken Bricklayer Vase. I have added some talc powder to highlight the dimples and the pattern sequence, the first photo shows you the vases laying on their backs where you can see both the dimples and the bases. ( we are viewing from bottom photo to top )

The Kingfisher Blue on the left is the genuine vase note the dimple pattern differs of that of the fake green vase on the right also the base of the genuine vase is ground out and polished were as the fake vase as a ripple effect.

The second photo shows the vases standing upright in this photo notice the clear glass at the bottom of the squares the green one shows more clear glass than the blue original one and again you get a better view of the dimple pattern.

The third photo shows the vases from the rear take notice of each square and how they differ from one another.

The fourth and finale photo is a close up of the bases showing how the genuine Kingfisher Blue vase as been finsihed off with being ground out and polished while the base on the green fake vase as a crude ripple effect & as a letter V to show that it is a (FAKE/COPY) there are some that do not have this V so are made to deceive outright from the start. Whitefriars Coffin Vase 9686

Whitefriars Bark Effect Coffin Vase Pattern No 9686 was Designed by Geoffrey Baxter and produced from 1969-80 these are probably the most recongnisable pieces from the WF company which closed in 1980, some are cased in clear crystal and some are FLC the height is 5"inches the base is polished smooth. In all there are 15 the colours being from left to right.

Whitefriars Mallet Vase 9818

These are often called the mallet vase or the bottle neck vase, Designed by Geoffrey Baxter for Whitefriars Glassworks, Pattern No 9818 size 7" high the base flat and polished.
From left to right the colours are, Lilac/Sage/Kingfisher Blue/Tangerine/Ruby/Aubergine, there is also a colour in ( Flint) of which i have yet to obtain, should you know of this colour please contact me by clicking on any of the email me icons. TRICORN 9570 VASE'S

Tricorn vase pattern No 9570 designed by Geoffrey Baxter for Whitefriars Glassworks in production from 1969-80 when the company closed it's gates, the heights of the hand made crystal vases vary from 8" inches to 9"inches some are cased some are FLC this will be pointed out on the blog on the single photo's of the vases, all have a ground out polished pontil to the base

from left to right the colours are. Pewter/Aubergine/Best Blue/Sage/Green/Amber/Lilac/Gold/Ocean Green/Meadow green/Kingfisher Blue/Ruby.

I still need to collect some more these colours are Sky Blue/Aqua/Tangerine.

Pontil Marks

Pontil: an attribute of blown glass. When blown glass pieces are made, they are attached to a rod held by the glassmaker called a "pontil rod". The pontil rod is usually four or five feet long, with a dab of molten glass on the end; this sticks to the bottom of a hot glass piece as it is formed, allowing the glassmaker to manipulate the glass. When the finished glass is snapped off the pontil rod, this leaves a rough spot, usually on the base of the glass, called a pontil (or a punty or pontil mark). A rough pontil is the term used for the unfinished spot before it is polished shown above A rough pontil also may be called an open pontil. A smooth pontil is the term applied to the rough area after it is ground, leaving a circular depression (above, top left photo). A smooth pontil is sometimes referred to as a ground pontil. Smooth pontils also may be polished: this means that a rough pontil was ground and the pontil area then highly polished to neaten the original pontil mark . Smooth, polished pontils are often found on expensive glassware. The presence of a pontil of a particular kind sometimes helps establish the age or authenticity of an antique glass piece.

Top photo you will see the finish pontils on a tangerine bark effect 9689/Lilac lobed 9775/Aqua Knobbly 9856. Below that are Ruby swan/ Mallet vase 9818/ Gold swan, all have a ripple effect but polished flat base.then below this are An Aqua 9571/Tangerine 9566/Lobed 9727 all with smooth polished pontils. The last photo are finshed pontils to a Ruby Finger vase 9729/ And a Meadow Coffin vase 9686, both are smooth and polished which as left the ripple effect to the base.

So as you can see not all Whitefriars Glass will have the ground out polished pontil, as some people tend to think if there is as a ground out polished pontil it is WhiteFriars Glass, not so as other companys followed this production method too.

Marvellous Meadow Green

Meadow green colour was launched around 1970 and stayed in production for 3yrs until 1973, theses are the piece's i have up to date and always on the look out for more.

From left to right the names and pattern No's are lobed 9727 / Coffin vase 9686 /Oval tapering 9657 / Tricorn 9570/ Knobbly 9608 / Oval hambone 9656/ Textured finger vase 9729. designed by various designers at Whitefriars Works, these can be found to the right on the individual part of the blog for these piece's note they are all cased in clear crystall glass.

Sage Section

This is the Sage Section of my whitefriars collection Sage was only produced in 1974, and there fore quite rare and collectable, in all patterns of which there a few here i show some of the patterns i have up to date from left to right i have, 9803 Ovoid random strapping vase/ 9571 teardrop cased vase/ 9845 knobbly vase/ 9843 knobbly vase/ 9818 mallet or bottle neck vase, these were designed by various designers whom worked for Whitefriars Glassworks, their names can be found below the indivdual piece to your right, more will be added from time to time so please keep looking in.

Lovely Lilac's

The lovely Lilac's i have up to date this colour was only produced in 1974, from left to right back, a 5 lobed 9775/ knobbly 9843/ tricorn 9570/ knobbly 9844/ mallet 9818./ front row hambone 9656/ and a 5 lobed 9727/. All cased in clear crystal glass, designed by GB & also WW between them which ones please read the single photo's to find out, more to be added in the future.

Bark Effect Fingers.

This is a full set of bark effect finger vases, Designed by Geoffrey Baxter for Whitefriars Glass, which closed there gates in 1980, WF Glass is very sort after, the bark effect being very desirable in all shapes and sizes, the pattern No 9729.

From left to right the colours are.

Tangerine/Ruby/Meadow Green/Flint/Pewter/Aubergine/kingfisher Blue. all are cased in clear crystal glass, size 5.1/4" base is flat and polished.
